James Z. Li is the founder and CEO of the E. J. McKay Group, a leading Chinese merchant bank active in the cross-border M&A, corporate finance and tech investment businesses.
James has advised many transactions between China and Europe, especially the Nordics, acting for both Chinese firms and European firms. In addition, he has raised capital for companies and for investment funds, and has made and exited many successful venture and private equity investments.
Prior to founding E. J. McKay, James was an investment banker with Merrill Lynch, and was a consultant with McKinsey. He holds an AB from Harvard, and Master’s degrees from Oxford and the University of Chicago. He is a board member of the Finnish Business Council Shanghai, a board member of the Harvard Club of South China, and the benefactor of a number of endowed scholarships at Harvard University and Dartmouth College.
